EdTPA Video Reflection: Analyzing Teaching and Student Responses

Video reflection is an essential part of the EdTPA capstone as it allows you to critically analyze your teaching and student responses. Reflecting on your video helps you demonstrate your ability to evaluate and improve your teaching practices.

4.1 Analyzing Your Teaching

When reflecting on the video, focus on:

  • Effective instructional strategies: Discuss which methods worked well in engaging students and why. For example, “The group work allowed students to interact and deepen their understanding of the concept.”
  • Classroom management: Reflect on how you maintained focus and student behavior during the lesson. Did students remain engaged? Were there any disruptions, and how did you handle them?

4.2 Analyzing Student Responses

Observe how students respond to your instruction:

  • Engagement: Are students actively participating and asking questions? How do you encourage participation?
  • Understanding: Do students seem to grasp the content? If not, how do you adjust your teaching to support their learning?

Discuss specific student interactions that show progress or areas where adjustments were needed. For instance, “When I asked the students to explain the concept in their own words, several students struggled, which made me realize I needed to slow down and provide additional examples.”

4.3 Self-Improvement Through Reflection

Use the reflection as a tool for self-improvement:

  • What strategies will you continue using in future lessons?
  • What will you adjust in future lessons based on student needs and responses?
  • What professional growth do you identify in yourself based on this lesson and your teaching style?
